My Weekly Progress

So far the Toyon class has spent a lot of time trying to understand what the Toyon Literary Magazine is and what it represents. We have also learned a great deal about the positions within a magazine and the marketing tools necessary to generate both interest in our work and submissions.

I’ve spent some time researching the best ways to get the public interested in what magazines like Toyon do, and I hope to create a list that I can leave for the next Social Media Manager of Toyon. Simply as a result of the way the Cal State semester system works, there wasn’t much time in this semester for each of the students enrolled in the Toyon class to learn about their roles and apply this information before submissions are due. I think the Magazine would benefit from a Social Media Manager that has a set list of things to do to generate interest and submissions within the first few weeks of starting the job.

I’ve also tried to post a bit on the Toyon Facebook page, the HSU Environmental Studies Facebook page, and the Class of 2016, Class of 2017, and Class of 2018 Facebook pages to inform people of the September 30th submission deadline.

I am currently working on a newsletter to send out to Toyon subscribers and alumni.
