Co-facilitated the Humboldt State University (HSU) Learning Center’s Graduate Writing Proficiency Exam Preparedness Workshops (GWPE) for HSU students, 2016-2017

Each Prep Workshop (1-2 per semester) consisted of a lecture portion and a directed activity section, and lasted a total of two hours. Myself and one other Writing Consultant from the Writing Studio developed the content with the help of our Writing Studio Coordinator, and presented the workshops.

Humboldt State University's description of the GWPE:

"Since the late 1970s, demonstration of writing proficiency at the upper-division level has been a requirement for graduation from Humboldt State University and all other institutions in the California State University (CSU) system. All students graduating from HSU with a baccalaureate degree under the 1977-78 and subsequent general catalogs must take the GWPE. The HSU GWPE consists of two forty-five minute essays: one in response to a personal experience prompt, the other in response to an analytical prompt.  Students must receive a passing score to graduate."

Our student-run, student-driven workshops helped upper devision HSU students understand the GWPE process and the purpose of the test. Students attending these workshops gained hands-on practice with example exam questions and writing tips to make testing day a success.

In addition to facilitating the Prep Workshop, I also created and distributed a flier to inform HSU students about upcoming Graduate Writing Proficiency Exam Preparedness Workshops.
