Created a Public Service Announcement (PSA), Elevator Pitch, Press Release, and Social Media Campaign for the Friends of the Dunes, North Coast Environmental Center for an Environmental Communication class as a group project, December 2015.

Developed for the Underwater Parks Day family event to increase awareness and understanding about Marine Protected Areas in Eureka –

Elevator Pitch (60 sec):

  1. Hook: Group walks up with snorkeling masks and flippers on

  2. “Good morning, everyone. You like our swim gear? We’re preparing for an awesome day at our local Marine Protected Area!”

  3. Target audience

    1. Whether you want to climb the coastal cliffs, swim with our marine neighbors, or bring the family for a nice walk on the beach, all are welcome for a day of fun at the Samoa State Marine Conservation Area!

  4. Communication products

    1. To help get the word out about this awesome event, we have created two effective communication tools. The first is a public service announcement that can be broadcast on your local radio station. The second is a social media campaign utilizing several popular social media websites.

  5. Product benefits

    1. Utilizing these communication tools is beneficial to our event because they are the most effective ways to make people aware of, and interested in visiting, our local Marine Protected Area.

Social Media Campaign:

Friends of the dunes already had a strong Facebook presence when this project began and they had just started an Instigram account, but there was no involvement with Snapchat. As Snapchat is one of the most popular social media sites, we developed a geofilter idea for Snapchat users in order to raise public awareness of MPAs. Below are two examples of geofilters. Further details can be found here.
