Hello and Welcome!

My name is Ciera Rose Mills and I am a recent Humboldt State University  (HSU) undergraduate from the Environmental Studies program, with an emphasis in Media Production. After taking classes in environmental photography, social justice filming, and environmental communication, I became interested in the world of media production and social media’s ability to reach a broad audience. I wanted to gain some experience and was asked to help edit a professor’s book on disability studies, for which I am very grateful as that experience cemented my love for all things media.

As a result, I was also an HSU Writing Consultant for four semesters, co-taught the Writing Studio Graduate Writing Proficiency Exam Preparedness Workshop, created and managed the Writing Studio social media pages, and I held the role of Social Media Manager for the Toyon Literary Magazine in Fall, 2016. I tried my hand at teaching and was a co-instructor of the HSU ENST 123: Green Building course for two semesters, and I volunteered at the Pacific Union School garden teaching K-8th graders about gardening 101, health, and food justice. In the Summer of 2016, I took my teaching/tutoring and outdoor skills to Girl Scout Camp Menzies, and taught young girls about environmental awareness, safety, wilderness survival, and how to enjoy and respect the world around them, all while having fun and getting active.

I've presented my work at Humboldt State and other universities in California, and have primarily focused on collaborative efforts with my classmates and colleagues as group-work allows for the dissemination of combined knowledge and skills (more information reaching more people!). Communication, youth education, and social justice are my greatest passions. Now that I have earned my BA, I am working toward a grant writing certification and continuing my career in environmental writing, media production, and social justice advocacy.

Please see my Portfolio and Resume pages for more details about my experience, and my Blog page for past writing assignments and personal adventures.
