A light breeze stirs sweet smells from the shop, inviting me in.
"The flour is organic and grown right here in California", the cashier says. Two dollars later the smell's origin sits in the palm of my hand. Not much weight to it. The lower half of the pink pastery is encased in a wrapper of folds and ridges, resembling a woman's gown. Elegance in the swirling cream dancing along the pastry's top. Crystals adorn the frosting, reflecting light like jewlery as I remove the wrapper and take a bite.
The flavors of champagne and sugar light up each tastebud. Full of air, the cake is like a sponge. The milk in the frosting complements the bread and sticks to my teeth and lips. This eating is a messy process.
